After Danish order: Swedish Coast Guard orders 14 new speedboats

The Swedish Coast Guard, Kustbevakningen, is set to receive 14 new high-speed boats starting in 2026.
This is according to a press release from the Swedish Coast Guard.
The order for the new KBV 100-series boats was awarded to Finnish Boomeranger Boats Oy after a public tender process. The order includes nine Coastal Patrol Boats (CPBs) and five smaller Interceptor boats, which will replace the Coast Guard's current high-speed patrol and response boats, which are nearing the end of their technical lifespan.
Modified design
The boats are based on existing Boomeranger designs with modifications to meet the Coast Guard's requirements through a design review with technical experts. This review aims to ensure serial production, robustness, and improved working conditions, including an elastic cabin suspension system to reduce noise and vibrations onboard.
The patrol boats will be 13.5 meters long, while the interceptors will be 11.5 meters long. These boats will be used for customs and border control, fisheries monitoring, monitoring restricted areas, and conducting search and rescue missions.
The interceptors will play a key role as fast-response vessels for ship pursuit and boarding, rescuing people from the sea, and serving as diving platforms. They will operate year-round in ice-free conditions.
The interceptors are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027, while the patrol boats will be delivered between 2027 and 2029.
Ensuring operational efficiency
With the new boats, the Swedish Coast Guard aims to enhance robustness, serial production, and improve working conditions for its crews, says Christian Wentzel, Acting Head of the Material and Facilities Supply Department at Kustbevakningen.
- The new high-speed boats strengthen the Coast Guard’s maritime surveillance mission. We need to be able to operate in all weather conditions, sometimes at high speeds, to carry out our tasks, which places significant demands on the equipment. The serial production and robustness of the new vessels will increase our operational efficiency, says Christian Wentzel.
About the KBV 100 series
The Swedish Coast Guard's high-speed boats are widely used in operations and are currently deployed in various older and newer vessels in different models.
From 2026-2029, part of the fleet will be replaced with 14 high-speed boats in the new KBV 100 series from Finnish Boomeranger Boats Oy.
The vessels will be equipped with drive systems certified for the more environmentally friendly biodiesel fuel HVO100.

A milestone for Boomerang Boats
At Boomeranger Boats, CEO Jani Leskinen highlights the contract as an important milestone.
- We are fully committed to meeting Kustbevakningen’s high standards and ensuring that their operational requirements are met with precision and expertise. The contract confirms our commitment to quality and innovation in maritime solutions, says Jani Leskinen to the media outlet Naval Design.
At home, the Danish Coast Rescue Service is also undergoing a significant fleet renewal.
In February 2025, the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (FMI) placed an order for seven new motorized rescue boats, Danish Rescue Vessels (DRV), to be delivered by Maritime Partner AS in Norway.
The seven new Danish rescue boats are of the Sjøbjørn 71 or Alusafe 2000 type and are expected to be delivered between 2026 and 2028.
