High Temperature Materials Research Engineer

Resilient materials to match the green fuels
Green fuels are good for the environment, but they can challenge the different components used in internal combustion engines in the maritime industry. The temperatures in the combustion chamber are increasing, which calls for materials with reliable high temperature properties. Do you have experience with such materials? Do you see yourself making a strong impact on the decarbonization of the maritime industry? Then this might be the right position for you.
At Everllence we transform cutting-edge technology into solutions that play a vital role in decarbonizing the world. We are the global market leader in energy-efficient and fuel-flexible large marine engine systems, and we are committed to developing engineering systems for deep decarbonization.
This requires innovation, creativity, and skills. That is why we are looking for a new colleague with passion for and experience in high temperature materials to join us on our journey.
You will play an important role in:
Finding the right solutions for the hottest components in our engines. You will work closely with specialists in your team and across other R&D departments. Your team consists of 10 metallurgists and technicians working in a modern metallurgical laboratory equipped for metallography, microscopy, spectroscopy, heat treatment, and mechanical testing. The lab is continuously adapted to meet new challenges, and new equipment is acquired as needed.
Your task will include:
- Testing and developing high temperature material solutions for various components, primarily within high temperature steels and Ni-base and Co-base superalloys
- Identifying, developing, and improving methods for production of durable high temperature components.
- Conducting failure analyses of components from marine engines in service and incorporating the obtained results into component improvements.
- Providing support to internal and external stakeholders (e.g., engine builders and suppliers).
- Qualifying suppliers of high temperature components for large two-stroke marine engines.
We imagine that you:
Are self-driven, analytical, and persistent in developing resilient solutions for high-temperature components. You have strong communication skills and a desire to work in group-based projects across the organization. Close collaboration with other R&D teams, our Engine Support Teams and our Engineering Design Teams will be part of the daily work. Within your own team, we hope you will contribute actively to a positive and inclusive social environment.
Furthermore, we imagine that you:
- Hold a degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Have a broad metallurgical background.
- Are experienced in working in a metallurgical laboratory.
- Have solid experience with high temperature materials (i.e., high temperature steels, Ni- and Co-base super alloys) as well as high temperature degradation mechanisms.
It will be an advantage if you also have experience with one or more of the following:
- Experience with wear and corrosion mechanisms in complex fuel environments (methanol, ammonia, LPG, LNG)
- Experience with coating technologies (e.g., PVD/CVD).
- Experience with fatigue and optimization of fatigue loaded components.
- Experience with 3D printed metal parts.
- Experience with joining technologies, e.g., brazing and welding.
- Experience with complex heat treatments
- Experience with Finite element simulation methods.
Welcome to Material Technology
Your team is based at Everllence's Danish headquarters in the South Harbor of Copenhagen. The team is diverse in both gender, ethnicity and age which forms a strong and flexible unit. We maintain an open and respectful tone, and our company language is English. We respect each other, we help each other, we inspire each other, and we share knowledge to ensure a continuous development of the team.
We are a support function responsible for developing new material solutions for our engines. We collaborate across the organization with other R&D teams, Engineering Design teams and Engine Support teams regarding material selection, failure analysis and vendor approval.
We need to expand this support function to extend the high temperature material field to ensure that our engines continue to run reliable in the future and to reach our goals for decarbonization.
Unleash your potential: Join us towards a carbon-neutral future
At Everllence, we offer you the chance to shape the future where you can create, drive, build, and be a part of improving innovative energy solutions, while achieving your personal career goals. We prioritize work-life balance with flexible working hours, remote work options, and over 7 weeks of paid time off.
We foster a creative and inclusive culture, emphasizing diversity and equality. We are dedicated to our employees' well-being, offering opportunities to join various social activity clubs, ranging from yoga and fishing to creative clubs.
In 2027, we will consolidate our Zealand locations into one large site in Trekroner, Roskilde.
