Senior Naval Architect for Marine Project Engineering

Design the best engine- and propulsion solutions for vessels around the globe.
Some people prefer to crunch the numbers and make complex analyses. Others would rather want to use their voice and interact with consultants and share their expertise with clients and specialists from all over the world. As a senior naval architect at Everllence you get to do both. Take the next step in your career within propulsion solutions at Everllence (previously MAN Energy Solutions).
Come on board exciting projects
The maritime industry is developing fast with new regulations and demands to reduce emissions significantly. You will work closely with experts and shipyards to design, implement, and optimize applications that support and drive our mission towards decarbonization of the maritime shipping industry. At Everllence, we are set on taking on the big challenges of climate change and aid the transition of the industry in alignment with the IMOs target for 2050. We offer a portfolio of pioneering technologies that contribute to a carbon-neutral world in the maritime sector.
You will play an important role in:
As a part of our Marine Project Engineering function, you will be one of our specialists in propulsion systems, the development of our calculation tools used for our consulting tasks, and providing market insights to our designers, sales representatives as well as shipyards directly.
You will play a key role in advising shipyards and colleagues in particular challenging cases. Especially with respect to overall optimisation of the onboard propulsion plant, ensuring compliance in the best way, and furthermore ensuring that the Everllence B&W engine is the preferred choice in the yard or design institutes standard ship designs.
Moreover, you will:
- Analyse what engine type and size will be the optimal choice for specific ship designs
- Keep yourself up to date on the regulation on emission control and other relevant legislation in order to provide guidance on optimum paths for compliance
- Answer questions from clients, among which are mainly shipyards and design institutes but also shipping companies and licensees
- Collect market insights and digest these into the suggestions for the development of the two-stroke engine portfolio considering power and fuel type needs
- Travel to shipyards and design institutes to promote two-stroke technology and Everllence’ solutions for the most optimum integration of the two-stroke engine
Approx. 30-40 traveling days per year will be expected in the role, mainly to the shipyards and design offices in south east Asia.
We imagine that you:
Are a naval architect with an outgoing and outspoken mindset, preferably specialized in the interactions between the main engine, hull and propeller. You are curious by nature, which gives you the drive to always learn new technologies. You enjoy innovating to develop solutions on challenges experienced in everyday life and ideas are abundant – ideas you manage to transform into real initiatives and products to improve or ease the integration of the main engine onboard. Sharing your ideas with your colleagues and especially clients is a motivational factor for you.
On top of this, we imagine our new colleague has:
- An education as a naval architect, mechanical engineer or similar
- Knowledge on propeller and hull design and interest in their impact on the operating conditions of the two-stroke engine
- Knowledge on important compliance aspects from a shipyards perspective, i.e. EEDI, CII and the latest developments at the IMO with respect to a global fuel standard
- Preferably knowledge in the two-stroke combustion process, limitations and opportunities in relation to ship design
- An interest in staying updated on latest regulation and impact towards ship and engine design
- Enjoys interacting with people and participate in seminars or lectures
- The ability to speak and write English at a professional level to large audiences
- +5 years of experience within the industry either in a similar role or with experience from a ship design institute or at shipowner involved in newbuilding acquisitions
Welcome to the Marine Project Engineering
The marine project engineering team is responsible for the collaboration with various industry stakeholders, especially shipyards, around the selection of main engine, fuel types and overall shipboard-systems optimization. It is a small team of seven naval architects and engineers, two software developers and two student assistants.
We have daily contact with the shipyards’ designers of the coming ships for tomorrow, fulfilling all the newest environmental and commercial rules and sending engine data, making analysis, giving advice, etc. Besides new buildings, the department also works with optimisation and development of retrofit solutions.
Internally we advise regarding the demand for engine development to fit the best for the coming ship design for tomorrow (2030, 2040 …), thus ensuring that our engines stay the first choice for the world's fleet of commercial ships.
