Stena Line invests a gigantic sum in a new British port terminal

The authorities have finally approved the project, and construction can begin

200 million pounds.

That's how much the freight ferry terminal, which the Swedish shipping company Stena Line and the United Kingdom's largest port operator Associated British Ports (ABP) jointly plan to establish at the port of Immingham, will cost.

Stena Line has announced this.

The project has been approved by the British government, and now the construction of the new roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ferry terminal can finally begin.

- We are very pleased that the minister has approved the new RoRo terminal at the port of Immingham. The port is of great strategic importance to Stena Line, and we aim to build on the success we have seen in the freight market without cars, says Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line.

The dream of establishing the terminal dates back to 2022, when the parties entered into the agreement with each other. Stena Line has committed to using the terminal on a 50-year contract.

From Stena Line, it is said that Immingham will become a strategic hub for the company, which currently operates two daily ferries from the Humber region to Holland. Stena, which owns Stena Line, also recently became the owner of the transport and logistics company NTEX, which has its British headquarters in the port.

With the new terminal, Stena Line thus expands its activities in Immingham while making room for shorter sailing intervals and larger ships.

- This is a long-term commitment for us and will be crucial in expanding our freight activities on our routes between the United Kingdom and continental Europe to meet demand. Together with Stena's recent acquisition of NTEX, we look forward to this development expanding our business and strengthening our position in the market in the northeast of England, says Nicklas Mårtensson.
