From submarines to frigates: Danish hydraulics specialist targets naval orders

Emerson in Næstved is preparing to deliver hydraulics for frigates and other naval vessels as part of Europe’s rearmament, writes Sjællandske Nyheder.
The company has for many years delivered hydraulics for submarines, and according to the new CEO, Kim Rønn, the next natural step is to enter the naval segment.
According to Kim Rønn, Emerson is particularly looking toward the Danish market, but also toward the rest of Europe, where the company has begun bidding on foreign naval projects.
The CEO expects that the company will have its first orders in place in about a year.
According to the CEO, the company is working intensively to build networks with shipyards, ministries of defence, and other players in the industry.
The goal is to become part of Europe’s military value chain. The prospect of growing defence budgets over the next 10–15 years could provide stability and increased revenue in Emerson’s marine business. This will also create a need to hire employees with military experience.
Production, according to Kim Rønn, will take place in a NATO country — which for Emerson means in Næstved and Ry — where the company has its headquarters and development department.
The Danish hydraulics specialist has, since 1960, developed from C.O. Hansen’s Machine Factory into a global marine player. In 2006, the company was acquired by American firm Emerson Electric Co.
The company is part of Emerson Marine Solutions, with around 540 employees globally, of which about 200 are employed in the Danish company, Emerson Automation Solutions Damcos.
