Head of Performance, Energy & Emission - Maersk Tankers

Maersk Tankers is seeking a commercially minded and technically strong Head of Vessel Performance, Energy & Emission to own and develop a critical function at the intersection of vessel performance, fuel efficiency, emissions compliance, and digital innovation.

This is a strategically important role with responsibility for optimizing the performance of a sizeable pool fleet while ensuring compliance with evolving environmental regulations. Working across internal teams, vessel owners, and technology partners, you will help shape the future approach to performance management, fuel optimization, and digital enablement.

The role combines deep maritime expertise with a strong understanding of emerging technologies, data-driven decision-making, automation, and AI-enabled solutions that support continuous fleet optimization and operational excellence.

The Job

As Head of Vessel Performance Energy & Emission, you will be responsible for driving initiatives across performance analytics, fuel optimization, emissions compliance, reporting systems, hull performance management, Pool Point calculations and owner engagement.

Supported by a small specialist team, you will work closely with vessel owners, operations, chartering, voyage management, and external technology providers to identify opportunities for performance improvement and implement solutions that create measurable commercial and environmental value.

You will play a key role in shaping the organization's strategy for EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime, CII compliance, digital reporting platforms, and fleet-wide performance optimization initiatives.

A central part of the role will be identifying and leveraging new technologies and best practices within vessel performance management. This includes evaluating opportunities within advanced analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, and digital performance tools to strengthen decision-making, improve efficiency, and support Maersk Tankers' long-term strategy.

Professional Competencies Required for This Role

• Significant experience within commercial shipping, vessel performance, marine operations, knowledge of Pool Point methodology, fuel optimization, or energy efficiency.
• Strong understanding of vessel performance management, fuel consumption analytics, and operational performance drivers.
• Solid knowledge of EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime, CII, and related environmental compliance frameworks.
• Experience working with digital solutions, data platforms, reporting systems, automation initiatives, or performance management technologies.
• Understanding of emerging technologies and the potential application of AI, advanced analytics, and digital tools within shipping.
• Proven ability to collaborate and influence across commercial, operational, and technical functions.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and commercial audiences.
