Vessel Manager for Swire Blue Ocean

Swire Blue Ocean (SBO) is a global offshore wind, construction and decommissioning partner and leading provider of turbine and foundation installation services to the offshore wind industry. SBO has delivered a portfolio of more than twenty large offshore projects in Europe to clients such as Ørsted, Vattenfall and Siemens Gamesa, and we are focused on expanding our activities internationally.

We are now hiring a Vessel Manager for one of the world’s biggest and most sophisticated offshore windfarm installation vessels which is well positioned to install the next generation turbines.

Vessel Manager

We are seeking an experienced Vessel Manager with Chief Engineer background, a structured approach and strong interpersonal skills. You will be responsible for the supervision and safe operation of a state-of-the-art windfarm installation vessel. The position will feed directly into Swire Blue Ocean’s technical strategy, advising management in Copenhagen and our parent company in Singapore on maintenance, spares and upgrades. You will ensure cost effective management of assets in line with the company technical budget, with focus on supplier management.

The job

As a Vessel Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring our assets are maintained according to class and other statutory requirements, taking a proactive approach and continuing to build our strong relationship with these organizations. The vessel manager will be expected to closely interact with the project department to ensure technical modifications are closely vetted and solutions to client’s requests are delivered with a focus on technical integrity.

As wind turbines continue to grow, SBO’s two industry-leading jack-ups will require optimization to remain at the forefront of the sector. Although the main part of the Vessel Manager’s role will be concentrated on the day-to-day operation of the vessels, you will have the exciting opportunity to advise and propose technical efficiencies in forums focused on upgrades.

Successful candidate

Due to the varied responsibilities of the role and complexity of the vessels, the successful candidate should hold:

  • Marine engineer with Chief Engineers background.
  • At least five years of relevant experience from either onshore or offshore, with a combination preferred.
  • Specific technical knowledge of jack-up vessels or other special purpose vessels being an advantage
  • The ability to prioritize tasks and maintain rigorous technical discipline to statutory requirement compliance.

Personal skills

As a Vessel Manager, you should have a genuine interest in the offshore wind sector and demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal skills required for supporting the teams offshore and cooperating with other internal departments.
  • Experience in budgeting and cost control
  • Experience working in an international environment with multiple stakeholders.

Although the predominant focus of the role is marine operations, past exposure to the offshore construction sector and turnkey projects is beneficial.
