Police escort activists out of Maersk offices
More than 50 activists, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, entered Maersk Tankers' offices in Copenhagen on Tuesday. Maersk Tankers is one of Maersk's subsidiaries.
This is reported by TV 2 Kosmopol.
The Green Youth Movement stated in a press release that they are behind the action and that the goal is to draw attention to Maersk’s role in the climate crisis. The activists reportedly intended to stay for as long as possible.
Vice police inspector Simon Hansen from Copenhagen Police confirmed Tuesday morning that some demonstrators had shown up at a business address on Holmbladsgade in Amager.
The police received the report at 09:40. The demonstrators were both inside and outside the building.
- We initiated a dialogue with the demonstrators to understand what they wanted, said the vice police inspector.
At the same time, they were asked to leave the premises.
- Those who refused to leave the building voluntarily are now being escorted out, Simon Hansen said shortly after 11:00.
Those being escorted out are charged with trespassing, the police stated on social media platform X. It is not clear how many activists are involved.
