Starting in October, Chinese ships will face new U.S. tariffs
Starting October 14 this year, Chinese-built, -owned, and -operated ships will be hit with new tariffs in the U.S. The tariffs are intended to strengthen American shipbuilding
The U.S. has unveiled plans to impose port fees on Chinese ships in an effort to revive shipbuilding in America and challenge China’s dominance of the industry.
The new fees will be charged once per voyage, rather than per port call as originally proposed. This means a ship will pay only one fee per U.S. voyage, regardless of how many American ports it visits on the same trip.
