THE GALLERY: Historic lightship scrapped by Swedes
It has been in the harbor with its light turned off since the mid-1970s. But now it's over, the lightship 'Fladen' is currently being scrapped by the Swedish company Drive Entreprenad.
The final image of the lightship in its entirety. Shortly after this photo was taken, the cutting torch was ignited and the ship was methodically dismantled piece by piece.

The lighthouse itself was carefully cut away from its base and transported elsewhere. This part of the ship will continue to live on.

For more than 50 years, the lightship served at three different reefs close to the Swedish coasts. Initially, it was stationed at Ölandsrev and Hävringe reefs. For many years, the ship was located precisely at these two spots east of Sweden.
