Breeding whales prompt DFDS to change sailing route
Animal welfare is gradually making its way onto the shipping companies' agenda. Earlier this year, DFDS changed its sailing route in the Mediterranean to avoid getting too close to a breeding area for sperm whales
The consideration is about the safety of the whales, allowing them peace to breed and care for their calves.
- The whales don't migrate; they are here year-round and breed here. It's a critical area for them, and when we became aware of it, we naturally entered into a dialogue with those who had knowledge about it, says Sofie Lindegaard, Head of Sustainability at DFDS.
